Emotional Eating

Emotional eating involves binge-eating, grazing or eating when not hungry in order to manage feelings. The emotional eater may or may not be obese. Symptoms include obsessional thoughts about food, fluctuations in weight, cycling through dieting, bingeing and remorse, depressed mood, and difficulty identifying feelings. For the emotional eater, food is used for reward, nurturing and excitement. There is usually a disconnection from signals of hunger/satiety.
